Why you need to catch up on inventory awareness

' I want it now', we've heard this all before, but can your business offer this? One of the number 1 challenges it comes to implementing same day is inventory awareness at check out.

Hi, it's Finlay here, and welcome to my Whiteboard Wednesday.

Now, what I'd like to talk to you about is inventory awareness at checkout. So, what do I actually mean by that? My role at On the dot allows me, or gives me the chance to work with many of the high street retailers that you'll all be familiar with. Really discussing initially how can we implement one of the hottest opportunities there is for retailers right now, which is same day delivery.

However, pretty much all of my conversations will end up around this major challenge that retailers are trying to fix. Essentially what that means is being able to present at checkout live stock availability. And some of the blockers, or some of the distractions that I've learnt about along the way, I've highlighted here. These are legacy technology, other priorities, and leadership decisions, of which you can read more about in the blog that will be linked at the bottom of this video.

But I'll just quickly touch into other priorities. So, a lot of retailers are focusing on the in-store customer experience, or the online experience, or building Apps, and RFID targets. And that's all very good stuff. However, they've taken their eye off the ball a little bit when it comes to implementing same day delivery. Because to get that right, you really need to be able to know what stock you have in-store if you're going to be offering express same day delivery.
